Privacy policy

Smarty Pets helps kids learn their school's weekly vocabulary. It is used by families: a grown-up creates the account and adds the kids. We built it to collect as little as possible, and we never sell personal information or show ads.
What we collect
- Grown-ups: your email address (to sign in and for the weekly report), a PIN for the parent area (stored only as a one-way hash), your family name and time zone, and, if you subscribe, your plan status. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store card numbers.
- Kids: a first name (or nickname) and grade that a grown-up enters, the picture they choose, and their learning activity: the words and definitions their grown-up entered, answers in lessons and games, levels, play time, pets, stars and the items they unlock.
- Devices: a random device id in a cookie, so the app knows which device is playing and keeps progress in sync. We use only the cookies the app needs to work (sign-in, device, parent-area lock). There are no advertising or analytics trackers.
Kids never type an email address, password or any other contact details, and there is no chat, messaging or sharing with other users.
How we use it
- To run the game: teach the words, track levels and the daily goal, and keep progress the same on every device.
- To show grown-ups their kids' progress in the parent area and in the optional weekly report.
- To manage your plan and answer your support emails.
We don't use kids' information for advertising, profiling or any purpose other than providing Smarty Pets.
Who helps us run Smarty Pets
These service providers process information only to provide their part of the service to us:
- Supabase (database and sign-in) and Vercel (hosting) store and serve the app's data.
- Anthropic (AI) receives a week's words and their definitions to write examples, tips and stories for the grown-up to approve. It does not receive kids' names or activity.
- ElevenLabs (voices) receives the words, definitions and approved sentences to record them as audio. It does not receive kids' names or activity.
- Stripe handles payments, and Resend sends emails (sign-in codes and the weekly report) to grown-ups.
Children's privacy
Smarty Pets is designed for children under 13, used through a parent's or guardian's account. The grown-up who creates the account provides the information about their kids and consents to its use as described here. A parent can review, download or delete their child's information at any time (below), or ask us to stop collecting it, which means removing the child from the account.
Your choices and rights
- See and download: the parent area shows your kids' progress, and Family & plan → “Download everything” gives you all of your family's data as a file.
- Delete: remove a kid in the parent area, or delete your whole family's account under Family & plan. Deleting is immediate; copies in our providers' backups are erased on their normal schedule (typically within 30 days).
- Emails: turn the weekly report off in Family & plan or with the link in any report.
Keeping it safe
Data is encrypted in transit, each family can only ever read its own data (enforced in the database itself), and the parent area is locked behind each grown-up's PIN. We keep information while your account is open and delete it when you delete the account.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell account holders by email before it takes effect. Questions or requests: hello@mysmartypets.com.
